Understanding government delivery
Pahlka does an amazing job describing the shortcomings of why government delivery of services, about the complexities of matching policy to intent, of bureaucracy that is fearful of change because the public itself is so litigious. The book does such a good job of covering the shortcomings as well as some ideas on how to improve the situation.
Some ideas that I remember are 1. Have policy writing also have technologists who can help define how the policy can get implemented.2. Empower technologists in government instead of seeing them as not that important. 3. Focus on people and work backwards instead of a waterfall approach of trying to implement policy when delivering projects.
There are more but those are what I remember. Highly recommended this book.
