The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company

Robert Iger · ★★☆☆☆ · 250 pages · 2019

Pretty good book sort of the change of Disney over 45 years with some good leadership tips thrown in. However, it was more interesting understanding how Disney has changed during that period including the merger with ABC and ESPN.

Updated Oct 2025: I am starting to reflect again on what Bob Igor has done to Disney versus what he describes in the book and I realize that everything he has done with Disney under his tenure has blown apart. Marvel is a boring brand that no longer captures major interest from new assets even though in the book he was excited for creating new movies from the assets he purchased. This is 10 years ago. Lucasfilm and Star Wars brand is basically dead. What does new Star Wars even represent? Fox ironically no longer has fun new shows but seems to milk the existing ones. When is Simpsons going to get killed? Pixar hasn’t had a memorable movie in ages. And lastly the Disney stock price has collapsed.

I think Igor was a good at milking assets not creating long term brand value for the assets he purchased.
